UPDATE (1/19/2025)

Since the release of this guide, NotebookLM has gotten much better at accepting URL sources. Previously, many of the URLs for the Reddit threads/pages would be rejected, but this shouldn’t be the case now. Feel free to skip over the JSON step in this guide and just copy/paste the Reddit url as the source in NotebookLM for even more efficiency.

Last week, while diving into the community's reaction to OpenAI's announcements, I found myself drowning in Reddit threads. You know the ones - 200+ comments deep, filled with developer insights, user experiences, and technical discussions that could make or break your understanding of what's really happening in AI.

I used to spend hours manually combing through these threads, copying interesting comments into a doc, trying to piece together the community's real sentiment. It was like trying to drink from a firehose of information.

Then I discovered something that changed everything.

It wasn't an expensive tool or complex API. It was literally adding four characters to a URL. Four characters that transformed how I analyze community insights and gave me a superpower for understanding AI trends.

In this guide, I'll show you exactly how I:

  • Extract insights from massive Reddit threads in minutes instead of hours

  • Transform messy comments into structured data that AI can analyze

  • Pull out key community sentiments with surprising accuracy

  • Back up my analysis with specific comments and trends

(Video guide included below)

But first, let's talk about why this matters so much.
